Dear 2020 Graduates and Parents:
Last week, President Fitts sent a message to graduating students and their parents about the postponement of Tulane’s commencement exercises. While this decision was difficult, the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff is our number one priority. However, it is also important that we celebrate the educational accomplishments of the Class of 2020. To mark the conferment of degrees, there will be a virtual celebration on May 16. The conferral of degrees is an important milestone in the academic career of all of our graduates, and this moment will not go uncelebrated.
This virtual event will not take the place of an in-person event and we are hoping that we will be able to reschedule commencement soon. To inform planning, please complete this survey to let us know when you would be most likely to travel and attend the proposed rescheduled ceremony.
We understand many of you have already made travel arrangements to New Orleans to attend commencement activities. Most airlines have offered general travel waivers on bookings due to the growing concern over the coronavirus. American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit, United and most other major airlines are offering travel waivers for flights, subject to terms and conditions. If you have any questions, please visit the FAQ page for additional information or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Although we are terribly disappointed we cannot congratulate you in person this May, we are thankful that we will be able to celebrate with you virtually. We hope you and your families will join us on May 16. Be on the lookout for additional information as the virtual celebration approaches.
